Community Outreach

The commemoration of Emancipation has been built on organizing at a community level and is rooted in a rekindled pride in African self-hood generated through a consciousness of history and heritage. This positive self- consciousness infused and energized existing groups and inspired the formation of new groups. It penetrated offices in both the private and public sectors, religious groups, churches, and academic institutions. Many of these bodies now organize their own emancipation celebrations. Every year the ESCTT responds to dozens of requests within communities for lectures and exhibitions related to the history, culture and current reality of Africans.
