The Emancipation Support Committee of Trinidad and Tobago (ESCTT) is and independent non-government organisation located in the island with the which aims to transform the society to enable the restoration of African self-hood, embracing a contemporary vision of Emancipation for development; its vision being an empowered African people able to meet the challenges of the national, regional and global environments.

The specific objectives of the organisation are:

  1. Utilize the observance of Emancipation as one of the principal vehicles through which the Committee can engage other local organisations, the people of Trinidad and Tobago and the rest of the Caribbean, other Africans in the Diaspora and on the African continent;
  2. Deepen network processes among African organisations in Trinidad and Tobago and internationally;
  3. Develop a broad range of solid, regional and international relationships in the fields of culture, intellectual exchange, sharing human resource, economies and all other areas of African development;
  4. Ensure that Africans develop an equitable stake in the economy of Trinidad and Tobago;
  5. Assist Africans to restore the emphasis once placed on learning and to establish activities which will continue to build Africans’ self-esteem, social and general knowledge on a global scale;
  6. Seek appropriate representations of Africans in the mass media and in the formal education system;
  7. Ensure respect for African religious forms and support initiatives for the development of African spirituality;
  8. Act as an advocate for African interests in Trinidad and Tobago and to broaden that advocacy strategically to embrace causes of and relevant to Africans everywhere in the world.  Pandemics and the struggle for reparations are two examples of issues which require global African action.
  9. Promote strategies for national and regional economic development which strengthen the position of Caribbean economies within the global environment and lead to greater equity among ethnic groups in the region.
